So I was at one of the biggest car shows in western Ohio in Lima at a Cadillac Chevy Auto Mall and as I left to head home about 4.30 pm the guy parked next to me was right behind me as I headed to I-75. It was about a four mile trip on the Dixie Highway also known as 25A which was the major north-south route in the U.S. until I-75 was completed. It basically runs parallel to I-75 all the way to Florida. If you live in western Ohio 25A is where you settle horsepower wars. This guy is driving a ‘72 Nova with a 396 4M and it sounded like a monster. Headers and idled like it was cammed. It had the hood punched out so the hi-rise manifold and two Holley carbs could breathe. This guy was behind me at every light gunning the motor and sticking to my rear. I stayed in the left lane and let him pull beside me doing about 35 and lunged about a 1/2 car on him and braked and he came right up on me again. I told my g-daughters to roll down their windows and when he looked over to wave bye bye. When they waved I was in 2nd doing 35 and I jumped on it and he did also surprisingly fast but it was all over. His motor sounded beautiful as it faded away. It was no contest. I let up about 70 ( in a 55 zone) but he let up early because….well….. he realized his car sucked. It wasn’t even close. The EVH Stripes and vanity plates make me a target for everyone who thinks they have a fast car. I enjoy spanking V8 muscle cars from the 60’s and 70’s.
