In high-boost applications such as your Tapout Tuned ATS-V, dielectric grease becomes exceedingly important when it comes to your spark plugs. While this isn’t as relevant in non-boosted applications, the tuned LF4 needs to have the coil boot ends filled with dielectric grease. This ensures that you have the conductive portion of the spark plug completely covered to prevent misfires under boost.
You don’t need to worry about the dielectric grease insulating the spark plug from the coil pack electrical connector. Its spring loaded and designed to make a mechanical connection, which then serves to ensure the electrical connection. The dielectric grease acts as a barrier to prevent electrical current from “leaking” through.
We recently had a customer who started to experience similar misfires after completing his tune. He installed new colder plugs and also used the dielectric grease we provided but was still experiencing misfires.
After speaking with him further we determined that while he did use dielectric grease, he was not using enough of it. We let him know that the coil boot ends needed to be completely filled for proper results. After adding more dielectric grease all his misfires issues were resolved and his ATS-V is running like a dream!
That is precisely why Tapout provides not only a packet of dielectric grease with every spark plug purchase, but also a packet of anti-seize so that your plugs are easy to remove the next time you need to change them. Remember we’re here to help advance this platform; let’s get better together!
