Description
Pure Turbos is the undisputed world leader in modified OEM turbochargers, offering unbeatable value and performance. After nearly five years experimenting with various wheel designs, we finally settled on what has proven to be the ultimate combination for this platform. These turbos are the largest, most efficient upgrade on the market. The turbine wheel is larger than any other offering, which results in less backpressure than the competitor’s turbos.
The copy cats don’t use point milled compressor wheels. Our compressor wheels cost 40 to 50% more than the standard flank milled compressor wheels they use. Point milling allows for more aggressive blade geometry. This is one of the reasons that all the LF4-based records are held with cars running genuine Pure turbos.
Tapout Tuning has installed and thoroughly tested every turbo on the market for these cars over the last three years. We use the best dyno in the business and without question we understand the real world performance of LF4 turbos better than anyone else. We have installed one set of TPC turbos and dyno tested before and after. Peak power gains were in the 4% range, but there were losses in the low end of about the same amount. We have installed a few sets of Turbobays, and dyno tested two before and after the turbo swap. These both produced 3 to 4% more peak power than OEM unmodified turbos. We understand they’ve made three or four revisions to their design now, but it seems very strange that no one has ever outperformed stock unmodified turbos in the quarter mile. We have sold, installed and dyno tuned many sets of the Caddy Issues turbos that Cal Smith designed in 2020. Average peak power for all the ones we’ve dyno tested was 715 whp. Average without methanol injection was 705 whp. And the average peak power with factory camshafts and valve springs was 681 whp. And three ATS-Vs have run 9.3x quarter mile times with these turbos. Recently we switched to genuine Pure Stage 2 Plus turbos. We have already tested ten sets of these on our in-house dyno. Average peak power so far is 740 whp.
Every car we’ve built with these turbos has produced 700 to 760 peak whp, using the industry standard SAE correction factor. We post more of these every month. Scroll to the bottom of this page to see the latest ones. And we have put eleven ATS-Vs into the nines with these turbos already. The copy cats only show one dyno chart, which was created in ‘uncorrected’ format. And none has ever hit nines to the best of our knowledge. You can do the math on this.
Pure Stage 2 Plus turbos are the highest quality and most powerful upgrades available for LF4/LF3 engines. Their broad-band torque gains are just as impressive as the horsepower gains. Torque wins races and makes street cars fast, and these turbos turn your car into a tire-shredding torque monster. Your turbo spool will be incredibly fast, with zero apparent lag. Everyone who drives with these is astonished at the difference they make (including those familiar with upgraded/high horsepower ATS-Vs). The car becomes a lot more responsive and fun to drive. You will be able to clearly hear the turbos spool. They are loud and intimidating, and can produce far more boost, power, and torque than any other available upgrades.
ARP head studs are required with these turbochargers. Pure Stage 2 Plus turbos produce approximately 680 whp with stock camshafts and valve springs. We recommend Mace Stage 1 camshafts and valvesprings when you upgrade your turbos. Upgrading your valve train increases peak power to the 700 to 760 whp range, and will extend your powerband tremendously.
