Brian came to us with a competitive tune that was producing close to stock horsepower. We added more than one hundred foot-pounds of torque and resolved all his drivability issues. He took his car to the local quarter mile track last night and broke into the top 25 on his first time ever with this car at the track! His best time was 11.899 @ 115.50 mph. Nicely done, Brian! Your quarter mile rankings incentive check is in the mail. Check out the link below to see what it takes to get on this list!
Throwback Thursday!
Today’s Tapout Tuning throwback is featuring Scott Cook’s 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP. This was one of the first Grand Prixs to be successfully converted from supercharged to turbocharged, years before any aftermarket kits were available. When Scott began this build, the world’s fastest Grand Prix was running 11.94x in the quarter mile. Determined to destroy this record his vanity plates boldly read, “RUN TENS”. After dialing in every aspect of the car it set the 3800 FWD quarter mile record on it’s very first outing, and later became the first ever to run a ten second quarter mile pass! Its best time was 9.499 at 145.13 mph. The car was featured in two separate magazine articles as well. (Check out the links below to see these articles!) This same drive and determination has been carried on to Tapout Tuning and we are still obsessed with huge horsepower and torque gains. It really is true that some things never change.

Tapout Tune of the Week!
This week Tapout Tuning is taking a closer look at a dyno tune we completed for Brian. He was running an intake, exhaust and tune from a well-known performance shop and was disappointed with the results he saw.
We met with Brian at our dyno location and took the time to explain what we were doing on each new dyno pull and why we were doing it. As a company that is truly passionate about performance and every aspect of the driving experience, we explain our process to our customers so they understand how we attain the incredible results we do. Tuning is something that takes a great deal of experience and knowledge, and at Tapout that’s something we have in spades. As Brian stated, “I contacted Scott at Tapout Tuning because others with similar tuning issues spoke very highly of Scott and his ability to fix poor tunes”. It’s common for customers to come to us with tunes from other companies they are unhappy with, and we are eager to make the changes necessary to produce a perfect Tapout Tune our customers will love! After completing the custom tune, we added more than 100 foot-pounds of torque to Brian’s car at 3,500 rpm!
We take great pride in the work we do and it’s important to us that you are satisfied with the results. When we completed Brian’s tune he told us, “I couldn’t be happier with my Tapout Tune and the great service Scott provided”. When our customers tell us that, we know we’ve done our job. Take a look below to see a dyno chart comparison of the competitor’s tune (blue) and our Tapout Tune (red).
Tapout Tune of the Week!
Tapout Tuning offers custom dyno tunes in central Ohio and remote tunes for the rest of the world. Today we will take a closer look at a remote tune that we performed for Alex in Arizona. He previously had two different competitive tunes and didn’t like either one.
A Tapout engine and transmission tune was completed via email, a convenient option we offer to all our customers. We put great focus on being accommodating to our customers and meeting all their needs. As Alex stated, “Tapout Tuning stands apart from other tuners by providing a consultative, transparent approach to the calibration that is customized to the customer’s needs”. When working with us Alex noted, “My goals were optimization, safety, longevity and a wide, flat powerband. I got all of those things, along with a boost in fuel economy by way of Tapout’s protocols for optimizing efficiency of the LF4”. We not only significantly increased the power of Alex’s ATS-V, we also improved his fuel economy, all without sacrificing drivability.
Throwback Thursday with Tapout Tuning!
Often times it’s nice to reflect on where we came from and how far we have traveled. Progress and success comes through experience, and we are certainly no strangers to the drag strip. Today we’re turning back the clock 30 years to the summer of 1988 at Marion County International Raceway. This was Scott Cook with his 1987 Trans Am GTA, which came from the factory with a whopping 215 horsepower. It ran 14.53 in the quarter mile with some mild modifications, and 13.53 with a wet nitrous kit. Photos like these remind us why we do what we do. Passion for cars and performance is something that never leaves us, and is a driving force that keeps us going, even three decades later.
