Description
Any time boost is turned up, cylinder pressure increases. Once a certain level is reached, the cylinder heads can actually distort and lift away from the engine block, which can cause major engine damage. Some people have had holes burnt in their engine block and cylinder heads, which are both aluminum in our case.
The solution to dealing with higher cylinder pressure is to replace the factory OEM head bolts with high strength head studs. This will increase clamping load and help keep the block and heads from deforming under major stress. We highly recommend the ARP Pro Series head stud kit at power levels between 650 and 750 whp. From 750 to 1,000 whp you’ll want to use the strongest possible ARP Custom Age 625+ head stud kit. These kits include 16 head studs, patterned washers and hex nuts, a packet of fastener assembly lubricant and proper installation instructions.
